International artists as guests in Dortmund’s living rooms
A special feature of the competition is that many host families in Dortmund give the young international artists a home for the duration of the competition. This gives the competition a very personal touch and it is precisely these encounters across national and cultural borders that promote a lasting understanding of one another and strengthen intercultural dialog. Music can serve as a link between countries. Through this form of accommodation, numerous valuable encounters and international and intercultural interaction take place. In the past, many long-standing friendships have developed between the musicians and their host families.
The Schubert Competition is always looking for new host families for its competitions. A separate guest room and – if available – a separate bathroom for the guest are required. An instrument (piano/grand piano) is not necessary, as the participants have sufficient rehearsal rooms at their disposal during the competition week at the Orchesterzentrum NRW. Of course, all host families are welcome to participate in the competition and are invited to the rounds and the prizewinners’ concert.
